English: The mutation dominant spot appear in the UK at Birmingham University.  Some of them went to Roy Robsinson, but has he had not much experiance with this rodent, 30 of them went to Chris Henwood. In 1987 Judith Lissenberg imported them to the Netherlands.

The dilute mutation d show up in the line of winter whites from Hazel Williams, England. It is a pure mutation of the winter white. As the same mutation which is present at the Campbells, Opal, is also documented: 1992 Queens University. Breeders have done test breeding Sapphire winter white x Opal Campbell dwarfhamster. From this test we are sure that it is the same mutation, same gene on same locus.

Geel-wildkleur roodoog / argente, genetic code 'pp'

1988 - 1995, geplaatst door: M.G.B. Braak
Categorie: Russische dwerghamster, locatie: Vroomshoop, Holland

The yellow colour 'argente' is not a mutation which occour in the original line of the Winter Whites. This is a mutation which occour in the Campbell dwarfhamster and by breeding hybrid brought to the Winter Whites. Round 1988 the brothers Braak got a strange spotted Campbell dwarfhamster which had a Winter White look. It was a female and the brothers Braak breed it with Winter White. First generation was an offspring of the dwarfhamsters, two looking Campbell and one looking Winter White with one big neck-spot. This was also a female. They breed it back with pure Winter Whites and after five generation they did a test with interbreed brother x sister. In this litter there was one yellow hybrid. After breeding seven years to pure winter whites they sold them to other breeders.

The picture included is one of the first yellow Winter Whites.

Gevlekt, spotted, genetic code 'Mimi'

In 1988 Peter and Martin Braak bought a strange Campbell dwarfhamster with a neck spot. As it had signs of a winter white, they breed it with a winter white. In the first generation there was a nice type wildcolour winter white with one spot. It was a female which was very agressive of character and very long of type. Seven years of breeding, more then 20 generations to winter white, they sold the first ones to other breeders. They showd the first ones on Knagerfestijn 3.

Categorie: Russische dwerghamster, gebeurtenis: nieuwe mutatie, locatie: England
Aantal reacties: 2

The first Pearl was shown up in the line of winter whites breed by Caroline Sanders, England. The mutation is dominant and can combinated with other colours without problems. There are breeders who think that this mutation is lethal and that genetic it cannot be combinated (PePe not possible).

They were not healthy enough. In 2007 she give blue ones to Joep Vrijhof and one to Martin Braak. Martin breed a new line of it and give it to his brother Peter. Also some went to Rebas (Mirjan and Rene Bastiaans). Many blues are offspring of this line.

The picture is the blue Syrian, aadd, which Martin got from Janet.

The dilution gene was present in the tri-colour line of the breeding farm Medusa. The owner Janet Nobel selected blue Syrian Hamsters for years, but was not happy with the quality and that's why she did not give anyone away. Till 2007, she give the first to other breeders. Martin Braak got one which he called Smurf. Offspring wend to Peter Braak and Rebas. And from that to other breeders. Many blue Syrian Hamsters are from the same line.

Linda Price found the Dark Grey colour in the summer of 2000. Later she shipped colours BEA, Opal, Dark Grey and Moscow to Sweden. Finland did not want have Dark Grey and Moscow, only Opal. In the line of Dark Grey there was diabetic problems. In 2006 Joep Vrijhof had new ones born from a Swedish Campbell line and had no diabetic problems.

Mandarijn / mandarin, genetic code 'Ma_'

2000 - 2002, geplaatst door: M.G.B. Braak
Categorie: Russische dwerghamster, gebeurtenis: nieuwe mutatie, locatie: Nederland

The Mandarin mutaiton occour in Holland round 2000-2002. We do not know where the mutation came from. The first were exported to Singapore. Pictures of this mutation appear on the net in 2002. Later in 2004 they came to the Dutch market in huge numbers and the first price 40 euro drops very fast to some euro. The first Mandarins which breeders could get were pure of colour and they did not carry any other mutation. The first ones were better of quality then the wildcolour which were born from Mandarin x Mandarin. Later, in 2006, the first signs of diabetic problems were seen. This problem seems to be linked to the colour mutation.

Round 2003-2004 huge numbers of a new colour winter white appear to the Dutch market. The colour is in Holland called Beige and in UK Mushroom. It appear that it was a combination of two mutations: sapphire with brown. The first ones were very hybrid and it could be F5-F6 hybrid dwarfhamsters. Later we unsterstood that it was not a new colour mutation, but the Moscow mutation which was already present at the Campbell dwarfhamsters. As healty problems accour many breeders stopped breeding this mutation.

Zwart / Black, genetic code 'aa'

On the Dutch internet website Marktplaats.nl there was an advertisement with a litter winter whites with also black colour. Martin Braak saw this and got them included the parrents. The litter was split and some went to René Bastiaans. The person told that the hamsters came from a normal petshop in Czech Republic and thought that there were two females. Some years later we understood that there was a Czech breeder who breed blacks and thought that they came from this person. But later information we know that these blacks were import from Holland. Martin did not sell blacks for 2 years and all offspring went to his brother Peter and to René. It seems that all black winter whites are offspring from this first litter.

In the first litter there was also a Mushroom colour. That is why we see this as a hybrid line. But the experience is that it is a new mutation born in a hybrid line.

Gelukkig hebben Nadine Conrad, Adriaan van Reeuwwijk en René en Mirjam Bastiaans dieren uitgeleend zodat de aanvraag tot erkenning toch doorgang kon vinden.
